A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
Because this is a school‑issued Microsoft account, your two‑factor authentication (MFA) is managed entirely by your school’s IT department. What you’re seeing — being asked for a code that never arrives — usually means the MFA method on your account is no longer valid, so Microsoft keeps waiting for a verification step that can’t complete.
Here’s what’s going on and how to get it fixed:
1. Why the code isn’t showing up
Even though your school reset your account on their website, Microsoft is still trying to use the old MFA method (often SMS or phone verification). If that method isn’t active anymore, no code will ever be sent.
In the Authenticator app, you’re only seeing options like:
- Create a passkey
Set up 2‑step verification
Set up passwordless sign‑in
That’s a sign your school account isn’t fully registered in the app yet, so it can’t receive notifications or generate codes.
2. Only your school’s IT team can reset your MFA
Microsoft can’t remove or reset MFA for school accounts. Your school’s IT administrator needs to clear your authentication methods in their Entra ID tenant:
Entra ID → Users → Select your account → Authentication methods → Delete all methods
Once they do that, you’ll be prompted to set up MFA again the next time you sign in.
3. After they reset it
You’ll be able to:
sign in normally
re‑add your account to Microsoft Authenticator
start receiving codes or notifications again
