If access to the old phone number is gone, the supported recovery path depends on what account access is still available:

    1. If the password is known but the old security method is unavailable:
      • Start signing in to the Microsoft account.
      • At Verify your identity, select I don't have any of these.
      • Follow the prompts to replace the security info.
      • After replacing all security info, there is a 30-day wait before sign-in is allowed.
    2. If the password is known and access still exists to at least one current security method:
      • Go to Advanced security options.
      • Select Add a new way to sign in or verify.
      • Confirm the new method with the code sent to it.
      • Remove the old phone number afterward.
      • Do not change all security info at the same time unless necessary, because that can restrict the account for 30 days.
    3. If the password is not known and there is no access to any security info:
      • Use the account recovery form and provide as much accurate information as possible.
    4. If the account sign-in keeps failing:
      • Use the Sign-in Helper tool first, because it can identify common account sign-in problems and guide the next steps.
    5. If support is needed:
      • Use Contact Microsoft Support through Get Help.
      • Support can route to the best option, but support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.
