A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
If access to the old phone number is gone, the supported recovery path depends on what account access is still available:
- If the password is known but the old security method is unavailable:
- Start signing in to the Microsoft account.
- At Verify your identity, select I don't have any of these.
- Follow the prompts to replace the security info.
- After replacing all security info, there is a 30-day wait before sign-in is allowed.
- If the password is known and access still exists to at least one current security method:
- Go to Advanced security options.
- Select Add a new way to sign in or verify.
- Confirm the new method with the code sent to it.
- Remove the old phone number afterward.
- Do not change all security info at the same time unless necessary, because that can restrict the account for 30 days.
- If the password is not known and there is no access to any security info:
- Use the account recovery form and provide as much accurate information as possible.
- If the account sign-in keeps failing:
- Use the Sign-in Helper tool first, because it can identify common account sign-in problems and guide the next steps.
- If support is needed:
- Use Contact Microsoft Support through Get Help.
- Support can route to the best option, but support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.
