Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
There is no manual password recovery path beyond the Microsoft account recovery process.
What can still be tried:
- Use the Sign-in Helper first, because it is the primary tool for sign-in problems and can identify account-specific issues: Sign-in Helper
- If the password is forgotten, use the standard reset flow:
- Go to Recover your account
- Enter the Hotmail/Outlook email address, phone number, or Skype name
- Choose where to receive the security code
- Enter the code
- Set a new password
- If the recovery form is being rejected, submit it again only with the strongest possible information:
- Complete it from a device previously used to sign in to that account
- Complete it from a familiar location such as home or office
- Use a working contact email address that can receive Microsoft’s reply
- Check saved passwords in Microsoft Edge, Windows Credential Manager, Chrome, or Apple Keychain if available
- If two-step verification is enabled and none of the alternate verification methods are accessible, the account cannot be recovered through support. Support agents are not allowed to send password reset links or change account details.
- If two-step verification is not enabled and the listed verification email or phone options are not recognized or are not working, use the Sign-in Helper instead of relying only on the recovery form.
- If the sign-in page says “We couldn't find an account with that username” or “That Microsoft account doesn't exist,” verify the spelling carefully, including the email name and domain such as
.comvs.co.uk. If the account has not been signed in to for more than 2 years, it may have been deleted.
About chat or phone support:
- Support can be contacted through Microsoft Support.
- Support agents cannot send password reset links or access/change account details for Microsoft accounts.
