Try these Windows 11 steps in order:
- Check the selected output device
- Select Start > Settings > System > Sound.
- Under Output, make sure the correct device is selected.
- Make sure the volume is not muted and the slider is turned up.
- Check Volume mixer
- Select Start > Settings > System > Sound > Volume mixer.
- Make sure the volume is turned up for System and the affected app.
- Make sure the app is not muted.
- Check whether the device is muted or disabled
- Right-click the Speakers icon on the taskbar.
- Select the arrow next to the volume slider to view connected audio devices.
- Open the mixer settings and confirm none of the device volume controls are muted.
- Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound > More sound settings.
- On the Playback tab, select the device, choose Properties, and make sure Device usage is set to Use this device (enable).
- Set the default playback device
- Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound > More sound settings > Playback.
- Right-click the correct audio device and select Set as default.
- Turn off audio enhancements
- Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
- Select the audio device under Output.
- Under Advanced settings, set Audio enhancements to Off.
- Check hardware connections
- Make sure speakers or headphones are plugged in securely.
- If using USB audio, try a different USB port.
- If headphones are plugged in, unplug them and test the speakers.
- Make sure external speakers are powered on and not muted.
- Update or reinstall the audio driver
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the audio device and select Update driver.
- Restart the PC.
- If the issue continues, uninstall the driver and reinstall it from the device manufacturer’s website.
- Run the audio troubleshooter
- Select Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- In the Audio section, select Run.
