When using a LogiTech headset on a Teams meeting, I will occasionally go into "chipmunk" mode then cut out

I have had several, seemingly random occurrences where I am on a Teams meeting, using my Logitech headset for both incoming and outgoing audio (as my speakers and microphone), and my outgoing audio / voice will stop and the only way I know about it is because my colleagues will ask if I'm still there. If I drop and re-join the meeting, my voice seems to be back to normal and everyone can hear me as before.

Eventually, one time when I had to drop and re-join, one of my colleagues remarked that just before they lost me, I sounded like a chipmunk, as if my audio was sped up, and then my audio stopped. After that, whenever the issue happened again, I asked if I went into "chipmunk mode" before I dropped and that was always confirmed.

My Logitech headset was kind of old, so I bought a new Logitech headset. The issue seemed to subside for a few weeks, but now I am having the same issue again.

To summarize, will occasionally have an issue where I'm on a Teams meeting with Logitech headset when my outgoing audio will briefly sound sped up and then will cut out so that I am no longer audible. I am unaware of this issue until one of my colleagues also on the meeting will ask if I'm still there. I can hear everyone else on the meeting with no problem. Dropping from the call and rejoining fixes my microphone issues. I am on Windows 11 Enterprise, using Teams version 26198.304.4946.9672.

How can I fix this so it does not happen again in the future?

I am having the same issues with sound dropping randomly during Teams calls. I have gone through every recommended step multiple times, bought a new Logi bluetooh headset and the problem still occurs. I've never had any issues with Bluetooth and Teams until recently. I am hearing of others where I work having the same issue.

I think… just leave the call, close Teams fully, open it again, and pick the Logitech mic in Settings → Devices — that’s basically what the app tells you when it speeds up then cuts.

    Hello Angie,

Based on the information you provided, I understand that the headset issue occurs intermittently during Teams meetings and does not happen every time you join a call. To help narrow down the issue, could you please assist with the following checks?

    1. Does the issue occur only during Microsoft Teams meetings, or do you also experience it during Teams calls? If you join the meeting using Teams on web, does the issue happen?
    2. Are there any third-party applications running in the background, such as VPN software, firewall tools, antivirus programs, or audio enhancement utilities? If so, please try temporarily disabling them, restart Teams, and then test whether the issue occurs again during a meeting.
    3. If possible, could another colleague test your Logitech headset on their computer? Alternatively, could you test a different headset on your device? This will help determine whether the issue is related to the headset itself or a potential conflict between the headset, Teams, and your computer.
    4. Please clear the Microsoft Teams cache by following the steps in the Microsoft guide below: Clear the Teams client cache - Microsoft Learn
    5. Could you let me know the exact Logitech headset model you are using? Additionally, please confirm:
      • Whether Windows is fully updated with the latest available updates.
      • Whether the Logitech firmware or Logitech software (such as Logi Tune or G HUB) is up to date.

The additional information above will help determine whether the issue is related to Microsoft Teams, the headset driver/firmware, Windows audio settings, or another application running on the device.

If you have any updates on this matter, please feel free to let me know any time. I look forward to hearing from you.

Based on the described pattern, the most likely causes are a temporary Teams app/peripheral sync issue or a device/driver issue on Windows, not a meeting-specific problem.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Update Teams and Windows Make sure Teams is on the latest version and install the latest Windows 11 updates. This is the first recommended step for Teams audio issues.
    2. Check the headset selected in Teams In Teams, go to Settings and more > Settings > Devices. Under Audio settings, confirm the Logitech headset is selected for both speaker and microphone.
    3. Run a Teams test call In Teams > Settings > Devices, select Make a test call. If playback is abnormal or the microphone drops there too, that points to the device path rather than a specific meeting.
    4. Restart Teams when it happens Since rejoining restores the microphone, fully restarting Teams can also help. There is a documented issue where Teams can stop syncing correctly with connected peripherals, and restarting Teams restores that sync.
    5. Close other apps that might be using the headset Exit third-party apps before joining a Teams meeting. Connected peripherals can fail to behave correctly when another app is already using the device.
    6. Check Windows microphone and sound device settings In Windows 11:
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      • Under Input, make sure the Logitech headset is the selected recording device.
      • Open the device properties and run Start test to verify the microphone records normally.
    7. If Windows is not detecting the headset correctly, reinstall/update the audio device driver This can help if the device stack is becoming unstable during calls.
      • Right-click Start > Device Manager.
      • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      • Right-click the audio device and select Uninstall device.
      • Restart the PC so Windows reinstalls the device.
      • Then return to Device Manager and use Update driver.
    8. Use a certified device if available Teams call and audio issues can occur with non-certified devices. If the Logitech model is not Teams-certified, test with a Teams-certified headset to rule out device compatibility.
    9. Avoid running Skype for Business at the same time There is a known issue where launching Skype for Business during an active Teams call can drop the Teams call.

If the issue continues after these steps, the strongest supported next action is to isolate whether it is the Teams desktop client or the Windows/device path:

    • Test the same meetings with a different headset.
    • Test whether the issue reproduces after a full Teams restart.
    • If the headset is Bluetooth or uses special peripheral controls, treat it as a peripheral sync issue first.

Because the symptom is specifically: audio becomes distorted, then the microphone cuts out, while incoming audio still works and rejoin fixes it, the most relevant supported fixes are restart Teams, close competing apps, verify the selected device, test the microphone in Windows, and reinstall/update the audio driver.
