Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Hi, Jeff Howren
Because activation stopped suddenly while the apps and macOS are current, this may be a connection, macOS permissions, or temporary Microsoft service issue rather than an incorrect account.
Besides the solutions provided by the Q&A Assist, here are some suggestions you can try:
Temporarily turn off any VPN, proxy, antivirus web filtering, or network security app. Then connect the Mac to a different network, such as a phone hotspot, and try activation again. Office must be able to contact the online licensing service.
Open System Settings > General > Date & Time and enable automatic date and time. An incorrect clock can prevent secure sign-in and activation.
Check the https://portal.office.com/servicestatus. If an activation or sign-in incident is listed, wait until it is resolved before making further changes.
In System Settings > General > Sharing, give the Mac a simple computer name containing only letters and numbers, restart it, and try again. Invalid characters in the Mac name can cause activation error 0xD000001c.
Create a temporary local administrator account under System Settings > Users & Groups, sign into that Mac account, and test Word there. This can identify a damaged or read-only macOS user profile.
If none of these work, please post the exact activation message or error code, since codes such as 0xD000000C and 0xD0001043 require different fixes.
Thank you for your patience in reading, I hope this information has been helpful to you.
