A 404 ResourceNotFoundException during sharing commonly occurs when SharePoint cannot resolve the file as a shareable list item.

If this Excel file is newly created in a library where Require documents to be checked out before they can be edited is set to Yes, and the file has never been checked in, external sharing can fail and return 404-style errors.

Use this fix:

Open the document library that contains the Excel file.
Select the file’s ellipsis (…).
Select the second ellipsis.
In Advanced, select Check In.
Try sharing the file again.

This action must be done by the file creator or an administrator.

If sharing options such as Anyone or People in Microsoft are greyed out, check whether the site collection feature Limited-access user permission lockdown mode is enabled:

Go to Site administration > Site settings.
Select Site collection features.
Deactivate Limited-access user permission lockdown mode.

If the issue is related to organization sharing policy, a SharePoint administrator may need to review the tenant and site external sharing settings.

Based on your description, the error occurs because SharePoint cannot locate the workbook from the file path submitted by Excel. The sharing request points to a workbook stored in OneDrive, but SharePoint is unable to retrieve the corresponding file.

I recommend locating the workbook in OneDrive on the web and sharing it directly from there.

Sign in to office.com using your work account > Select App Launcher > OneDrive.

Search for the workbook and verify that it hasn't been renamed, moved or deleted.

Open the folder where the workbook is stored and confirm that the file opens successfully.

Select the workbook and choose Share or Copy link to share it with your SharePoint group or intended recipients.

If you cannot find the workbook in OneDrive, please check your local device to see whether the file is stored in a different location and upload it to OneDrive before sharing it again.
