personal ink issue

hi new laptop , new to windows 11. things like documents and photos seem to get on pc ok but backing up to one drive which i have paid for 1 tb seem to go into personal ink which says isn't allowed and has a red cross on it. please help

The red X usually means OneDrive is having trouble syncing something. The exact message will help identify why.

To find OneDrive settings, look at the bottom-right corner of the Windows taskbar near the clock. Click the OneDrive cloud icon. You may need to click the ^ arrow first. Then click the gear icon > Settings. How to access OneDrive settings

To help narrow down the issue:

When you say “personal ink,” what exactly does it say on the screen? If possible, please provide a screenshot.
Click the OneDrive cloud icon. Does it show a specific sync error or message?
If you sign in at https://onedrive.live.com do you see your Documents and Pictures there?

Hi John, many thanks , I was getting a pop up bottom right saying personal.ink name is not allowed on cloud back up. Ive followed some dodgy instructions via google and now i just need to log into personal.ink on the one drive cloud icon . it has got nothing in the folder, there are so many posts about it and it seems pointless but hey ho. ill sign into it and just leave it sat there empty. Better than it saying its not allowed

Thanks for the update.

I think the name you are seeing is actually Personal Vault.lnk rather than .ink

The .lnk part means it is a Windows shortcut. You do not need to sign into that shortcut or keep an empty folder for it.

If you still have the red X, open your OneDrive folder in File Explorer and search for:

*.lnk

If Personal Vault.lnk appears, you can remove that shortcut from the OneDrive folder. This does not delete your actual Personal Vault or the files stored in it.

If the red X has now disappeared and OneDrive says Up to date, then there is nothing further you need to do.
