Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

    1. Could you please share the exact error message or issue you’re experiencing when trying to unlock your Personal Vault during the OneDrive restore process?
    2. Are you able to unlock your Personal Vault normally by verifying your identity?
    3. Also, have you tried using a different browser or device to check whether you can restore OneDrive to an earlier version?

Use Incognito mode to open a private browsing session. Then, sign in to OneDrive with your Microsoft account and try restoring OneDrive again.

Make sure you’re running the latest version of Windows and that your browser, such as Microsoft Edge or Firefox, is up to date. Then, open a private browsing window and sign in to OneDrive to see if you can restore it.

To get past Unlocking your Personal Vault while restoring OneDrive, unlock the vault first, then let OneDrive finish syncing before starting the restore again:

    1. In OneDrive, select the Personal Vault folder.
    2. Verify identity using one of the supported methods:
      • fingerprint, face, or PIN
      • a code from the Microsoft Authenticator app
      • a code sent by email or SMS
    3. Make sure any files stored in Personal Vault are closed.
    4. Wait for sync to complete. If there are many large files, increase the Personal Vault auto-lock time in OneDrive > Settings > Account > Change your Personal Vault auto-lock time.
    5. After sync completes, try the OneDrive restore again.

    To restore the entire OneDrive:

    1. Sign in to the OneDrive website.
    2. For a personal account with Microsoft 365, select Settings > Options > Restore your OneDrive.
    3. Select a restore date such as Yesterday or Custom date and time.
    4. Review the activity chart and activity feed before selecting Restore.

    Important:

    • Restoring the entire OneDrive requires Microsoft 365.
    • Personal Vault closes automatically after 20 minutes of inactivity.
    • When restoring, files or folders created after the restore point are moved to the OneDrive Recycle Bin.
    • If files are missing, check whether they are in Personal Vault, because Personal Vault files do not appear in search results.

If Personal Vault still will not unlock or stays stuck, use Microsoft support from the support article.
