Try these Windows 11 steps in order:
- Check the selected output device
- Select Start > Settings > System > Sound.
- Under Output, make sure the laptop speakers are selected.
- Make sure volume is turned up and not muted.
- Check the taskbar speaker selection
- Select the Speakers icon on the taskbar.
- Open the list of audio devices and confirm sound is going to the laptop speakers, not headphones, HDMI, or another device.
- Check the speaker connection state
- If headphones were recently used, unplug them.
- Some laptops stop speaker output while headphones are connected.
- Turn off audio enhancements
- Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
- In Output, select the speaker device.
- Under Advanced settings, set Audio enhancements to Off.
- Run the audio troubleshooter
- Go to Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- In the Audio section, select Run.
- Check whether the audio device is disabled
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- If the audio device appears, right-click it and select Enable device if that option is available.
- If it does not appear, select View > Show hidden devices, then Action > Scan for hardware changes.
- Update or reinstall the audio driver
- In Device Manager, expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the audio device and select Update driver.
- If needed, install the latest audio driver from the laptop manufacturer’s support site and restart the PC.
- Restart the PC
- Use Start > Power > Restart.
- A restart can reload audio services and drivers.
If the speakers still do not appear in Sound settings or Windows shows “No audio output device is installed”, that usually points to a missing, outdated, disabled, or corrupted audio driver.
