A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
This is usually an authentication loop on a new device. Use these steps in order:
- On the sign-in screen, select Other ways to sign in if it appears.
- Choose Approve a request on my Microsoft Authenticator app only if the account is already added and working in Authenticator.
- In Microsoft Authenticator on the device, make sure:
- the app opens normally
- the account is listed
- the app is unlocked
- notifications are enabled
- If Authenticator shows Authentication did not complete or keeps looping:
- update Microsoft Authenticator to the latest version
- switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data
- make sure Date & time on the device are correct
- restart the device
- If the prompt is coming through Outlook mobile instead, Outlook can be used for sign-in only when:
- the organization allows it
- at least one other verification method is already configured
- the app version is at least Outlook for Android 4.2405.0 or Outlook for iOS 4.2438.0
- If the account is a work or school account and the new device is still stuck in the loop after those checks, contact the IT admin or helpdesk. They can help when the sign-in method on the new device is not completing.
- If the account is a personal Microsoft account and the issue continues, send logs from Authenticator by opening the app menu and selecting Send feedback, then contact Support.
If an unrequested sign-in prompt appears, select Deny.
