Hi Dr Charles,
Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.
To prevent PowerPoint from automatically changing line breaks and the layout of your text, please try the following steps:
Method 1: Turn Off AutoFit
- Select the text box that is experiencing the issue.
- On the menu bar, select Shape Format.
- Select Format Pane.
- Go to Text Options > Text Box.
-

- Under Autofit, choose one of the following options:
- Do Not Autofit to prevent PowerPoint from automatically adjusting the text.
- Resize shape to fit text to allow the text box to expand automatically instead of changing the line breaks.
Method 2: Use Shift + Return
You can use Shift + Return to insert a line break without creating a new paragraph. This allows you to control exactly where the text wraps to a new line.
I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.
Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments on this post so I can continue to support you.
I look forward to continuing the conversation.
