If the account was deleted from Microsoft Authenticator and there was no cloud backup, it cannot be restored from the app.

    What can be done:

    1. Try to add the account again manually.
      • Open Authenticator on the mobile device.
      • Select the plus icon.
      • If it is a non-Microsoft account, choose Other account.
      • Scan the QR code from that account’s sign-in or security setup page.
      • If scanning is not possible, use the site’s manual setup option if it provides one.
    2. If the account is a Microsoft personal account, add it again from the Microsoft account security page.
      • Go to the Microsoft account Security tab.
      • Select Manage how I sign in.
      • Select Add a new way to sign in or verify.
      • Choose Use an app.
      • In Authenticator, tap the plus icon > Personal account > Scan a QR Code.
    3. If the deleted account was restored from backup and shows Action required, open that account in Authenticator, tap the account tile, sign in again, and complete the extra verification.
    4. If there is no backup and the provider is not sending a new QR code, the account must be re-added through that account’s sign-in recovery or security settings. If the service does not offer self-service recovery, only that provider or the organization’s IT administrator can reset the old Authenticator registration and let the account be enrolled again.

If access to the backup account is unavailable, support agents cannot restore Authenticator account credentials. In that case, the supported path is to add the accounts again.
