Setup an additional email and email alias in MS365 family edition

For Microsoft 365 Family, each person uses their own Microsoft account. To add a family member who wants to use a non-Outlook address, add that address as an alias on that person’s existing Microsoft account, then invite that account to the subscription.

Steps:

1. On the family member’s Microsoft account, go to Edit account info: https://account.live.com/names/manage
2. Select Add email.
3. Add the non-Microsoft email address as an alias, then complete verification.
   • The address must not already be associated with another Microsoft account.
   • Work or school addresses may be blocked by the organization.
4. After the alias is added, sign in to the Microsoft 365 Family Sharing page with the subscription owner account: https://account.microsoft.com/services/office/sharing
5. Select Start sharing.
6. Use Invite via email and send the invitation to the email address that the family member will use for the shared subscription.
7. The family member accepts the invitation by signing in with their Microsoft account.

Important limits:

• Microsoft 365 Family can be shared with up to five other people.
• An alias cannot be added if that email address is already a separate Microsoft account.
• Existing @hotmail.com, @live.com, @outlook.com, and @msn.com addresses cannot be added as aliases to another Microsoft account.
• Microsoft accounts cannot be merged. If the email was already created as a separate Microsoft account, it must remain separate rather than being folded into another account.

If the goal is simply to let a family member sign in with a non-Outlook address, the supported path is: create or use their Microsoft account, add that non-Outlook address as an alias if eligible, then invite that account to the Family subscription.
