I am being billed for a charge that I do not find on my Microsoft account page.

I've done all the investigation steps on my Microsoft account page and it shows no charges for the past 3 months, but I have a charge on my credit card statement from a month ago. Why can't I contact Microsoft by phone, text, whatever, to see what this charge is all about...or to possibly report it as a bogus charge?

If the charge does not appear in Microsoft order history or subscriptions after completing the investigation steps, the most likely explanations are:

    1. The charge is tied to a different Microsoft account.
    2. Another person, such as a family member, used the same card on their Microsoft account.
    3. The card was used fraudulently on someone else’s account.
    4. The charge may be a retry of a previously declined payment, a subscription renewal, a pre-order or split order shipment, or an in-app purchase.

    What to do next:

    1. Go to the Manage your payments page of the Microsoft account dashboard and select Investigate for the charge if available.
    2. Check order history again for the matching amount and date, and review any other Microsoft accounts that may have been used.
    3. If other household members have access to the card, check whether the charge appears on their Microsoft account.
    4. If the charge still cannot be identified, use Contact Microsoft Support and enter the billing problem, then select Get Help and Contact Support for the best available support option.
    5. If there is any sign the payment information was compromised, contact the bank or payment provider immediately to prevent more charges. Simply disputing the charge may not stop additional fraudulent transactions.

About phone contact: Microsoft routes billing help through the support flow in Get Help / Contact Support rather than direct public phone handling from these articles. The available support option may include chat or a requested callback, depending on the product and account.

A chargeback is a bank dispute process for unauthorized payments. For a suspicious charge that cannot be matched to any Microsoft account, the bank or card issuer is the correct path to open a dispute. Repeated misuse of chargebacks can be considered fraud.
