Managing sound and video settings during Teams meetings and calls for optimal communication
Try these steps in order:
- Close anything else that might be using the camera, such as Skype or a browser tab using video.
- If using an external webcam, unplug it and plug it back in.
- Restart the device.
- Make sure Windows and the Teams app are fully updated.
- In Teams, go to Settings > Devices and make a test call to check whether the camera is detected.
If the issue continues on Windows:
- Open Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
- Turn on Let apps access your camera.
- Make sure Microsoft Teams (work or school) is turned on.
- If it is already on, turn it off and back on.
- Close apps and restart the device.
If using Teams on the web, also allow camera access in the browser:
- Edge: Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Site permissions > All permissions > Camera > turn on Ask before accessing (recommended).
- Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Permissions > Camera > select the correct camera and set Sites can ask to use your camera.
- Safari: Settings > Websites > Camera > set When visiting other websites to Ask or Allow.
If the camera still does not work, check the camera driver in Windows or contact the device manufacturer in case it is a hardware issue.
