If the accounts were previously backed up, they can be restored in Microsoft Authenticator on the new phone.

    • Open Microsoft Authenticator on the new device.
    • On the welcome screen, choose Begin Recovery or Restore from backup.
    • Sign in with the same personal Microsoft account used for the old Authenticator backup.
    • If a valid backup exists, the app restores the saved accounts.

    Important details:

    • Backup and restore only work on the same device type. An iPhone backup cannot be restored to Android, and an Android backup cannot be restored to iPhone.
    • If backup was not enabled before the phone was lost, the missing Authenticator accounts usually cannot be restored from the app.
    • For work or school accounts, if sign-in is blocked and no other verification method is available, use Sign in another way if it appears. If no alternative method is available, contact the organization’s IT help desk or administrator.
    • If access to all security info for a work or school account is lost, start sign-in, select I don't have any of these, and follow the prompts to replace security info. After replacement, there is a 30-day wait before sign-in is available.

To avoid this again, enable backup in Authenticator after access is restored.
