Yes, the same Microsoft account can be used to sign in on a laptop.
If the password is not working on the laptop and the password cannot be changed, use these steps:
- Start with the Microsoft Sign-in Helper to identify the account problem and get the recommended fix.
- If the password was forgotten, reset it from Reset password: https://account.live.com/ResetPassword.aspx
- If the password is known but has stopped working, use Recover your account and enter the email address, phone number, or Skype name used for sign-in. Then:
- choose where to receive the security code
- select Next
- enter the code
- create a new password
- On a Windows laptop sign-in screen, these options are also available:
- select I forgot my password
- or select Sign-in options > Web sign-in, then sign in and choose Forgot my password
- If the error says "You have tried too many times with an incorrect password", use the Sign-in helper again. If needed, contact support through Microsoft Support. Support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.
- If the username is not recognized, check that the correct email domain is being used, such as the correct Outlook, Hotmail, or Live domain. If the email still is not recognized, try another alias or phone number on the account.
If this is a work or school account, password reset is handled differently: contact the IT admin or use Work or school password reset.
