Outlook Newsletter does not allow new edits

We enthusiastically welcome the new Outlook365 newsletter; Initially, it allowed us to understand how it works and to run the first newsletters, with a first edition. However, and suddenly, we not only stopped accessing these editions - they simply disappeared!! - and now it does not allow us to create any newsletter, nor edition: we build a copy, and then we do not have access; and makes no edits... It's a pity! because it was being an excellent editing and communication tool ...

Dear @Collins Mara

I completely understand your frustration Outlook Newsletters is a fantastic feature, and losing access to your saved drafts and being blocked from creating new ones disrupts your workflow.

Outlook Newsletters are stored in a cloud-based SharePoint Embedded container rather than locally within your Outlook app. If your existing editions suddenly disappeared and you can no longer edit or save new ones, it typically points to one of three underlying causes:

  • Mailbox Policy Changes: Your IT administrator may have recently updated or defaulted your organization's mailbox access policy for newsletters to ReadOnly or NoAccess.
  • SharePoint/OneDrive Storage Restrictions: If the underlying SharePoint container permissions changed or if your associated cloud storage space is full, background auto-saves fail silently.
  • License Constraints: Your account requires an active Exchange Online mailbox and an enterprise/business license with SharePoint access (standalone Exchange Online or A1 basic plans do not support authoring).

Please refer to the following step to resolve the issue.

Step 1: Verify Access via Web & Check the Recycle Bin

  • Log into Outlook on the Web using an InPrivate browser window.
  • Navigate to the Newsletters module.
  • Select the specific Newsletter page and check the Deleted tab to see if your missing editions were moved to the Recycle Bin. If found, select Restore.

Step 2: Contact Your IT Administrator to Update the OWA Policy

Because permission settings are enforced at the organization level, ask your IT Admin to check and restore your authoring permissions. According to official Microsoft Documentation on Managing Outlook Newsletters, your admin can re-enable creation and editing by running this Exchange Online PowerShell command:

Set-OwaMailboxPolicy -Identity "OwaMailboxPolicy-Default" -OutlookNewslettersAccessLevel ReadWrite

(Replacing "OwaMailboxPolicy-Default" with the specific policy assigned to your user account if applicable).

If your IT Admin confirms that permissions and SharePoint access are correctly configured, open the draft or Newsletters module in Outlook, go to Help > Feedback, check Collect logs for feedback, and submit a diagnostic report directly to Microsoft's engineering team.

If the issue persists tenant-wide, your Global Admin can open a support ticket via the Microsoft 365 Admin Center under Help & support for a backend synchronization check.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to share them in the comments so I can continue to support you. I look forward to hearing back from you.
