Yes, but only if a backup was created and the new phone is the same device type as the old one.

    • iPhone backups can only be restored to iPhone.
    • Android backups can only be restored to Android.

    If the backup exists:

    1. Open Microsoft Authenticator on the new phone.
    2. Select Restore from backup or Begin recovery before signing in.
    3. Sign in with the recovery account used during backup.
    4. After restore, sign in to each account again as needed.

If Restore from backup does not appear:

    • Remove or sign out of all accounts in Authenticator, then open the app again and try restore.

    What gets restored:

    • Microsoft personal accounts using one-time password codes: the codes are restored.
    • Microsoft personal accounts using passwordless sign-in: only the account name is restored, and sign-in is required again.
    • Work or school accounts: only the account name is restored, and sign-in is required again.
    • Third-party accounts such as Amazon, Facebook, or Gmail: one-time password codes are restored.

If the app shows Sign in to restore your account or Action required next to an account:

    1. Tap the account in Authenticator.
    2. Choose the sign-in/recovery option.
    3. Enter the password.
    4. Confirm the email address or phone number if prompted.

If the backup cannot be accessed:

    • For a personal Microsoft backup account, use the Microsoft account sign-in helper.
    • For a work or school account with no other sign-in method, use Sign in another way if available. If no alternative method was set up, contact the organization’s IT help desk or administrator.
    • If restore still is not possible for other reasons, the accounts must be added again.
