I have several Microsoft accounts..... Really only want two at max

I purchased Microsoft 365 (Personal) Premium at #199/year.

I NEED Microsoft 365 (Business) Standard for two Users at $365/year.

Cannot get into Personal to cancel the account.

Cannot get into Business to buy because it says my account is Personal

After so many tries, I no longer know which account is Business and which is Personal... or even which account I logged into.

Goal is [Moderator note: personal identifiable Information removed] being Business only.

[Moderator note: personal identifiable Information removed] being Business if necessary as Backup email.

Thank You

Hi @Schwerdfeger Family Farms

Thank you for reaching out Microsoft Q&A. I understand how confusing this becomes once several Microsoft sign-ins are involved, especially when a renewal is due. The important part is that Microsoft 365 Personal and Microsoft 365 Business Standard are separate subscriptions managed through different account experiences. Cancelling Personal will not convert it into a Business Standard subscription.

  1. First, identify the Microsoft account that owns the Personal subscription. If you are unsure of the username, use the official username recovery process with a security phone number or alternate email address you control.
  2. Once you have identified the correct personal account, sign in to Services & subscriptions. Confirm that it shows the Microsoft 365 Personal plan and its renewal date, then select Manage and follow the cancellation steps. See Cancel a Microsoft 365 subscription.
  3. Sign in separately at the Microsoft 365 admin center with the administrator account for your business organization. From Billing, purchase two Microsoft 365 Business Standard licenses. A Business Standard purchase is associated with that business organization/tenant; the official purchase guidance is available in Try or buy a Microsoft 365 for business subscription.
  4. Before cancelling the Personal plan, save or move any OneDrive files and mail that you need from that personal account. Do not cancel the business tenant or change domain settings merely to resolve the Personal subscription.

If you cannot identify the subscription owner after the recovery steps, contact Microsoft Support for private account and billing assistance. Have the purchase confirmation, charge date, and payment details ready, but share them only through the secure support process. As community moderators, we cannot see or change account ownership, subscriptions, or billing details.

Good luck with everything!

Microsoft 365 for personal use is completely different system than Microsoft 365 for business. They can coexist. I'm using both. One for my Personal documents, images, personal email, the other one for my Business. Personal one has email address like ******@outlook.com (that's Personal or Microsoft account), business one is like ******@mycompanydomain.com (that's Work account).

There is no upgrade or anything like that from Personal to Work, or back. Two completely different systems.

So, if you need a business account(s), just go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/business/microsoft-365-business-standard and go through process of purchasing subscriptions and creating environment (tenant) for your business.

    Hi,

Microsoft 365 Personal and Microsoft 365 Business Standard use different account types. A personal Microsoft account and a work/business account are separate, so you can't directly convert the Personal subscription into Business Standard.

    I recommend this order:

    1. Identify the account with Microsoft 365 Personal Premium by signing in to the Microsoft account dashboard and checking Services & subscriptions.

Keep that account separate until you have confirmed that your files and subscription information are safe.

Create or sign in with the work/business account and purchase Microsoft 365 Business Standard through the Microsoft 365 admin center.

Set up the two required users under the business tenant.

Once Business Standard is working correctly, cancel the Microsoft 365 Personal Premium subscription from the personal account.

If you're unsure which email is associated with your Personal subscription, Microsoft also provides guidance for finding the account used with Microsoft 365.

One important point: don't try to change the Personal account into a Business account. They are separate account types and services.

If you can share the exact message you're seeing when you try to purchase Business Standard, we can determine whether you're signing into the personal account or the business tenant.
