How to reset the link to the cloud storage when saving a Microsoft document

I have been using Office 365 for many years and storing documents on its one drive cloud storage successfully. Now for some reason when trying to save documents to the one drive cloud storage, I get a message that the link is not valid. How do I restore the link? I can access my documents on the one drive cloud using a direct link in Chrome browser, but I cannot save documents to that cloud address.

Thanks very much for your help in resolving this mystery.

A broken OneDrive-to-Office sign-in link is commonly fixed by re-linking OneDrive and clearing saved sign-in data.

  1. Check that the same account is signed in to both OneDrive and the Office app.
    • Select the OneDrive cloud icon in the taskbar notification area.
    • Go to Help & Settings > Settings > Account and note the signed-in account.
    • In the affected Office app, go to File > Account.
    • Under Connected Services, remove any accounts except the same account used by OneDrive.
  2. Restart the apps.
    • In OneDrive, select Help & Settings > Pause syncing and choose a time.
    • Then select Help & Settings > Quit OneDrive.
    • Close all Microsoft 365 apps.
    • Restart OneDrive and the affected Office app, then try saving again.
  3. Clear saved Windows credentials for OneDrive and Office.
    • In the affected Office app, go to File > Account and sign out of all accounts.
    • Close all Microsoft 365 apps.
    • Open Start, type credentials, and open Credential Manager.
    • Select Windows Credentials.
    • Under Generic Credentials, remove entries related to OneDrive, MicrosoftOffice16, and MicrosoftOffice15.
    • Restart OneDrive and the Office app, then sign in again with the same account.
  4. Unlink and re-link OneDrive.
    • Select the OneDrive cloud icon in the notification area.
    • Select Help and Settings > Settings.
    • Open the Account tab.
    • Select Unlink this PC > Unlink account.
    • Press Windows key + R.
    • Enter %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\settings and select OK.
    • Delete PreSignInSettingsConfig.json.
    • Start OneDrive again and sign in.
    • When prompted that a OneDrive folder already exists, select Use this folder.
  5. If the problem continues, install available Windows updates, then restart the Office app and try saving again.

Unlinking and re-linking does not delete OneDrive data. Local folders are temporarily disconnected, and changes sync again after re-linking.

    Hi!

From what I understand, you are unable to save files to OneDrive Deskop, but can you save files to OneDrive Web (Access via browser, such as Chrome)?

If so, it could be an authentication issue with OneDrive. Follow the step by step below:

    1. On the taskbar, next to the Speaker icon, click ^ > Blue Cloud > Gear icon > Settings > Account > Unlink Account.
    2. Open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Find Microsoft OneDrive > Click the ●●● > Uninstall.
    3. Restart your computer.
    4. Download and install OneDrive https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/onedrive/download
    5. Relink your account to OneDrive.
