My account was stolen.

Use the hacked-account recovery flow first, then the recovery form if needed.

1. Start the Microsoft Sign-in Helper for hacked accounts and enter the original email address or phone number tied to the account. It will guide to the available recovery options and may offer the chance to talk to an agent.
2. Before changing the password, run a full malware scan on the PC:
   • Open Windows Security
   • Go to Virus and threat protection
   • Select Scan options > Full scan > Scan now
3. If sign-in is still possible, change the password immediately. If not, use the password reset option.
4. After access is restored, check account settings that are commonly changed after a compromise:
   • connected accounts
   • forwarding
   • automatic replies
5. If the hacker changed the sign-in details and normal reset does not work, submit the Microsoft account recovery form. Use a device and location previously used to sign in, and provide as much detail as possible.
6. Gather strong proof for the recovery form, such as:
   • old passwords
   • Outlook contacts and exact email subject lines, if used
   • Skype ID or contacts, if used
   • Xbox console hardware ID from a console used frequently
7. If access to security methods was lost:
   • If the password is still known but only some security info is lost, sign in to Advanced security options, add a new verification method, then remove the old one. Do not change all security info at once because the account may be restricted for 30 days.
   • If the password is known but all security info is lost, start sign-in, choose I don't have any of these, and follow the steps to replace security info. After replacement, there is a 30-day wait before sign-in is allowed.
8. If two-step verification was turned on and there is no access to any alternate verification methods, support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.
9. If more help is needed, use Contact Microsoft Support. Support can route to the best option, but cannot bypass account ownership checks or manually reset the account.
