Email aliases are added to the Microsoft account, not inside New Outlook.

For a personal Microsoft 365 account:

  1. Go to Manage how you sign in to Microsoft or Edit account info.
  2. Select Add email.
  3. Choose one of these options:
    • create a new Outlook.com email address and add it as an alias, or
    • add an email address from another provider if it is not already associated with another Microsoft account.
  4. Complete the verification steps.
  5. If needed, set the new alias as the primary alias on the Microsoft account.

In New Outlook for Windows, the related action is only to add or manage the mailbox as an account:

  1. Open View > View settings.
  2. Go to Accounts > Your accounts.
  3. Select Add Account if the mailbox needs to be added to Outlook.

Important limits and rules from the account side:

  • Existing @hotmail.com, @live.com, @outlook.com, and @msn.com addresses cannot be added as aliases to another Microsoft account.
  • An alias cannot be added if that address is already associated with another Microsoft account.
  • Microsoft accounts cannot be merged.
