For the OneDrive Migration Tool authorization step in Canvas, check these prerequisites and conditions:
- Confirm the account has the required Canvas role and permissions.
- For a single course, access requires either a Canvas admin role or a Teacher, Designer, or TA role with LTI Instructor access.
- The role must include LTI Management Add and Delete permissions in the sub-account.
- For sub-account bulk migration, a Canvas admin role is required, and it must also include LTI Management Add and Delete permissions.
- Verify the Microsoft 365 LTI app and OneDrive app are enabled in Canvas.
- In Canvas, go to Admin >
<your root account>> Apps > View App Configurations. - Open the Gear menu for Microsoft Education and select Configure.
- On the Microsoft 365 LTI Admin Settings page, verify the OneDrive app is enabled.
- In Canvas, go to Admin >
- Make sure the classic Microsoft OneDrive app is still deployed and enabled.
- The migration tool depends on data and services from the classic Microsoft OneDrive LTI app.
- The classic app should not be deleted before migration is complete.
- Its placements should be disabled to prevent new classic links, but the app itself must remain deployed and enabled.
- Check that the migration tool itself was deployed correctly.
- In Canvas, a root account admin must enable the inherited developer key for Microsoft OneDrive Migration Tool.
- In Admin Developer Keys > Inherited, search for Microsoft OneDrive Migration Tool.
- The ID should be 170000000002010 and its State should be on.
- The app configuration should be added in Admin Settings > Apps > View App Configurations > + App, with Configuration Type set to By Client ID and the same client ID pasted in.
- Check browser requirements.
- Cookies should be enabled for Microsoft OneDrive.
- Pop-ups should not be blocked for Microsoft OneDrive.
- In Chrome incognito, cookies are not enabled by default.
- In Microsoft Edge private mode, ensure cookies have not been blocked.
- Retry the authorization.
- When the tool is opened for the first time in a course, selecting Authorize should open a confirmation dialog for Canvas API access.
- If no dialog appears, the most likely blockers from the documented setup are missing permissions, blocked pop-ups/cookies, or incomplete app deployment.
If the button still does nothing after these checks, the next action is for a Canvas root admin to review the Microsoft 365 LTI, classic OneDrive LTI, and migration tool deployment settings in the Canvas admin areas listed above.
