Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
To move from a UK Microsoft 365 Family subscription to a US one, the supported path is to let the current UK subscription expire or cancel it, then purchase a new subscription for the US region using the same Microsoft account.
Your OneDrive data is retained. The files remain tied to the Microsoft account, and if the subscription expires or sharing stops, the files remain intact. What changes is the subscription benefit:
- The 1 TB OneDrive storage benefit reverts to the account’s previous storage size.
- Full desktop Office app access is lost.
- Office files can still be viewed and printed, but not edited or newly created in the desktop apps.
To avoid losing access to data during the change:
- Keep using the same Microsoft account when buying the new US subscription.
- If the UK subscription is still active, wait for it to expire or cancel it first. A new subscription for the new region cannot be purchased until the existing subscription is gone.
- If needed, update country or region details in the Microsoft account profile and billing address before repurchasing.
- After the old subscription is gone, buy the US Microsoft 365 Family subscription with the same Microsoft account.
If there is concern about temporarily exceeding the reduced storage quota after the UK subscription ends, check storage usage first in the Microsoft storage area of the account dashboard.
