Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
To move from Microsoft 365 Family to Microsoft 365 Premium, buy the Microsoft 365 Premium subscription using the same Microsoft account as the current Family subscription. When the switch succeeds, the benefits start right away, and the remaining time on the Family subscription is automatically converted and added to the new Premium subscription.
If the purchase page is failing, use this support path to reach Microsoft support for subscription help:
- Go to Contact - Microsoft Support.
- Enter Billing or Contact in the search box.
- Select Get help.
- Choose Contact Support or Sign in to contact support.
- Under Products and services, select Microsoft 365 and Office or Microsoft 365.
- Under Category, select Manage my subscription or Manage account Subscription.
- Select Confirm.
- Choose Chat with a support agent on your web browser. If chat is unavailable, leave a phone number for a callback.
Useful details for this upgrade:
- Switching from Family to Premium is treated as moving to a subscription with more features.
- The exact number of converted days added to Premium depends on Microsoft’s conversion rules.
- If the switch is between Family and Personal, reinstalling desktop apps is not required. The context only explicitly confirms no reinstall is needed for Personal and Family switches; it does not state a reinstall requirement for Family to Premium.
- If Microsoft 365 Family or Personal is already installed, those desktop apps can be used offline after installation, but internet is required for first-time install, initial activation, updates, reinstall, subscription management, and regular sign-in to avoid reduced functionality mode.
If the online upgrade created a second subscription instead of switching the existing one, contact support through the steps above and ask them to review the subscription state and billing.
