I forgot my password and changed phone numbers

Since access to the account is still available on the computer, the fastest supported path is to add a new sign-in or verification method before removing the old phone number.

1. Open the Advanced security options page for the Microsoft account and sign in: Sign in
2. Select Add a new way to sign in or verify.
3. Choose the new phone number or another email address that can receive codes.
4. Enter the security code sent to that new method, then select Next.
5. After the new method is confirmed, find the old phone number in the security info list and select Remove.
6. Select Remove again to confirm.

Important:

• Do not change all security info at the same time. That can cause the account to be restricted for 30 days.
• If all current security methods are no longer accessible, at sign-in select I don't have any of these and follow the prompts to replace the security info. After replacement, there is a 30-day wait before sign-in is allowed.
• If the password is still needed and the account recovery process is already in progress, the account recovery form is the supported path when the password is unknown and security info cannot be used.
• If the account is not recognized during password reset, verify the email address carefully, including the correct domain such as .com vs .co.uk.

If the account is still signed in on the computer, updating the security info there before setting up the new phone is the best path.
