Accessing Microsoft Teams using organizational or personal credentials
If Teams will not let the password be changed and shows “A problem has occurred. Please try again”, use this path:
- Try resetting the work or school password from the sign-in page:
- Select Can’t access your account?
- If that link is not available, use the self-service password reset tool: https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com/
- On the verification page, enter the work or school account and complete the verification steps.
- If the reset page says “Please contact your administrator”, the password is managed by the organization or self-service password reset is not enabled for the account. In that case, the administrator must reset the password.
- If the password is rejected during change/reset because it is too easy to guess, create a stronger password and try again.
- After the password is changed, sign in to Teams again. Teams can ask for sign-in again after a password change for security reasons.
- Update the password anywhere the account is already configured, such as the phone or desktop mail app, so old saved credentials do not keep failing.
If access to the verification method is also blocked, look for Try another verification method. If no alternate method is available, only the organization’s administrator can restore access to the account or reset requirements.
