I can’t log into my Microsoft authentication app without a code even though I’m pre-logged out of it and can’t regain access without already being logged in so I’m stuck.

If Microsoft Authenticator is asking for a code from the same app, use one of these supported recovery paths:

    1. On the sign-in screen, look for another verification option such as Use a different way to sign in or another MFA method you already set up.
    2. If this is a personal Microsoft account and access to some security info still exists, sign in to Advanced security options, add a new way to sign in or verify, confirm it with the code sent there, then remove the old method.
    3. If access to all security info is lost for a personal Microsoft account, at the Verify your identity prompt select I don't have any of these and follow the steps to replace the security info. After replacement, sign-in is blocked for 30 days before the new security info can be used.
    4. If the issue is specifically "Authentication did not complete", check these common causes:
      • Unlock the Microsoft Authenticator app on the device.
      • Enable notifications for the app.
      • Update to the latest Authenticator version.
      • Switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data.
      • Make sure Date & time on the device is correct.
      • If using VPN, disconnect and test again.
    5. If this is a work or school account, sign in with a different method if available. If not, contact the organization’s IT admin or Help desk to clear or reset MFA settings. If the device was lost or stolen, the Help desk should clear the settings so registration can be completed again at next sign-in.
    6. If repeated sign-in attempts were made, Microsoft Entra MFA can temporarily block more attempts. Wait and try again later, or use a different MFA method if available.

There is no supported way to generate Authenticator codes when the app is no longer registered for the account.
