Hello.

I am getting tons and tons of inappropriate outlook calendar invites and outlook appointment requests and or reminders. I block them. I report them as Junk. I report them as phishing scams and I am still receiving them. I must get at least five or more a day. I will be doing a task on my phone and they will put up as an appointment or reminder in my Outlook calendar. How do I stop this from happening. It is getting out of control.

At this point, I recommend that you review and try the steps provided in the AI generated answer on your thread. That reply typically include the most relevant checks for this scenario.

To help narrow down where they are coming from, could you check the following?

Do the same events appear when you sign in to Outlook.com in a browser or only on your phone?
Are you using the Outlook mobile app or the phone’s built-in calendar app?
When you open one of the unwanted events, which calendar is it saved under? For example, your main Outlook calendar, a shared calendar or a subscribed calendar.
Do you also receive a corresponding invitation in your Inbox or Junk Email folder?
Are you using a personal Outlook.com account, or a Microsoft 365 work or school account managed by an organization?

In the meantime, please try these steps:

Sign in to Outlook.com and open Calendar. In the left pane, review My calendars, shared calendars and any subscribed calendars. Temporarily hide them one at a time to identify which calendar contains the unwanted events.
If you find an unfamiliar subscribed or shared calendar, open its options and remove it.
Open one of the unwanted invitations from your mail folder and use Report > Report phishing. Avoid selecting any links or attachments within the invitation.
Go to Settings > Mail > Junk email and add the sender or domain under Blocked senders and domains.
If these items appear only on the phone, check the phone’s calendar settings for any unfamiliar accounts or calendar subscriptions that may be syncing events.

I keep reporting these outlook calendar invites as Junk and Phishing, but I am still getting them. I cannot block them because if I open up the calendar invite, I could get a virus or something on my laptop or phone. I am not taking that chance.

Your caution is completely understandable. Please do not select any links, attachments, phone numbers or other content included in these invitations.

A screenshot would be helpful. If possible, please capture the Calendar view showing one of the unwanted events and the list of calendars in the left pane. You do not need to open the event. Before uploading the screenshot, please hide any personal information, such as your email address, names or event details.

Could you also confirm:

Do the unwanted events appear when you sign in to Outlook.com through a browser or only on your phone?

Are you using a personal Outlook.com account or a Microsoft 365 work or school account?

This will help determine whether the events are being added directly to your Outlook calendar or through another calendar or account synced with your phone.

I am attaching the screenshots from my Outlook email. The first two are the calendar invites I keep getting. The second one is after I delete or block or report as junk or report as phishing; they all still end up in my Groups (see screenshot).

No. The unwanted/ inappropriate events do not appear when I sign into Outlook.com through a browser or a phone. They just show up automatically. I have the Outlook app on my iPhone. I do not log into my Outlook email through a browser. Even on my laptop, I just open up Outlook from the desktop. I will hear the meeting notification sound on my phone and it will be one of these unwanted/ inappropriate meeting requests. They will also just show up in my email.

I use a hotmail.com account. This is my personal email. I do not have or use a school account. Thank you.

Hi Krystn Smerecki,

Thank you for the screenshots and for confirming that you are using a personal Hotmail account. I understand how disruptive these repeated invitations and notifications must be.

Since you normally use the Outlook apps, please sign in to Outlook.com through a browser and try the following:

Open Settings > Calendar > Events and invitations.

Under Events from email, turn off the option to automatically add events from email to your calendar.

Open Calendar and check the left pane for any shared or subscribed calendars you do not recognize. If you find one, remove it.

Check whether the unwanted invitations appear in both Mail and Calendar on Outlook.com.

This will help determine whether the invitations are being added at the account level or are only appearing through the Outlook apps.

In the meantime, you can temporarily turn off Outlook Calendar notifications under iPhone Settings > Notifications > Outlook to prevent the repeated alerts. This will not stop the invitations from arriving, but it may reduce the disruption while the source is being identified.

Please continue to avoid selecting any links or attachments in these invitations.

I have done everything you said to do but these invites keep appearing on my calendar. There is also no way to remove these SPAM groups that have been created from these invites. I have attached a screenshot of these SPAM groups that have been automatically added per these SPAM calendar invites. I have also attached a screenshot to show you how the SPAM invites automatically show up on my Outlook calendar. Thank you.

As already noted in my Answer on this thread, there is no way to stop Spam Calendar Events.

There is also no way to remove these SPAM groups that have been created from these invites.

If your case fits the normal pattern for this type of Spam, you were added to the Group first and then the Calendar event comes from the Group Calendar.

Hi Krystn Smerecki,

Thank you for the update. Since the unwanted events appear to be coming from spam Groups that were added to your account, please try to follow workaround shared by another community user, so the available options may differ depending on the Group. It may help remove existing Groups, but it may not prevent new spam Groups from being added in the future.

Please let us know whether you can see the Leave group option and whether the calendar events remain afterward.

Yes. I have already tried to remove myself from these groups but they keep popping up and I keep getting these outlook calendar invites, etc. . . . I had 22 yesterday. I cannot believe Microsoft has not figured out a way to help its customers to stop this from happening. I even tried creating a rule for these invites that show up in my email but it wouldn't let me. I have never had this happen before. I have had my hotmail.com account for over 30 years and have never had this issue until now. The fact there is nothing I can do to get this to stop is beyond ridiculous.

I can't be sure, but I don't believe that they are invites. In the other cases like this that I have seen, they are just notifications that you have been joined to a Group.

Regardless, if they are being delivered to your Junk Email folder (not your Inbox) then Rules do not auto run on anything delivered to your Junk Email folder.

I am still getting them. I get 20 a day now. I have been blocking them but it doesn't seem to help at all. Attach is a screenshot of what they look like in my Outlook inbox. Thank you.

At this point, the issue requires account-level investigation that cannot be performed through this user-to-user forum. Please contact Microsoft Support directly through the Contact Microsoft Support page, sign in with your Hotmail account, and describe the issue.

Please include the screenshot and mention that the spam Groups and calendar events keep returning after blocking and reporting them, disabling automatic events from email, and leaving the Groups.

I tried contacting via the link you provided, however, it just an endless loop of AI generated questions. No real person or IT tech to talk to her share my screenshots with. Is there a better way to get a hold of someone. This is getting out of control. This morning I had 32 SPAM outlook calendar invites. I keep reporting them as phishing, but they keep coming and don't stop.

From the main menu: Help -> ? Help

{This should open the Help side panel}

Search Help -> {Your problem} and press Enter

Still need help? [Yes]

If you get "We're here to help": Tell us your problem -> {Your problem, again} [Get Help]

[Sign In] {Use any Outlook/Microsoft account}

Choose a support option -> Chat with a support agent in your web browser

I understand how frustrating this has become. Please return to the Contact Microsoft Support page. When the Support Assistant opens, type “I need to speak with a live chat agent” or “Connect me to a live support agent.”

If a live chat option is available for your account and region, follow the prompts to connect. Please have your screenshots ready and explain that the spam calendar invitations continue despite reporting, blocking, and leaving the unwanted Groups.

This is a know issue. Microsoft is aware of the problem but there is currently no fix. Unless you are in an IT Managed Environment there is nothing you can do to stop them.

Spam Group Joins and Calendar Events

If you also see Group Calendars that you never joined, this is another trick the Spammers use. Also a know problem. No fix.
