I'm trying to save an Excel workbook to a local folder on my computer, but the option to save directly to my PC is disabled. I can only save to OneDrive and cannot select a local location. How can I enable saving files to my computer instead?

    Hi @Collins Abby

You mentioned "the option to save directly to my PC is disabled", do you see the option is greyed out or completely disappear?

Can you specify if you are using your school device or your personal device? Please also provide your Excel version and subscription type.

If possible, can you please provide a screenshot of the Excel settings. It should look something like this:

I look forward for your response.

In Office, enable local saving as the default:

    1. Open Excel.
    2. Go to File > Options > Save.
    3. Check Save to Computer by default.
    4. In Default local file location, select Browse... and choose a folder on the PC, such as Documents or Desktop.
    5. Save the workbook again.

If Excel still prefers OneDrive in the newer save experience, use either of these:

    • In the save window, open the Location drop-down, right-click a recent local folder, and select Set as Default Location.
    • Use File > Save As or press F12 to open the full save dialog, then choose This PC or Browse and pick a local folder.

Important: the selected local folder must be outside the local OneDrive folder. Files saved inside the OneDrive folder are synchronized to OneDrive by default.
