Microsoft account page keeps refreshing when I try to extend a subscription

This is a problem that people have posted multiple times in the past but here it is again.

I can log into Microsoft by clicking the circled "ME" at the top right of the MS logon page

https: // microsoft . com

I can select my circled initials once I'm logged in and go to "View Account"

After a short wait, I get the Account management page. I can select "Your Info", "Devices", "Security", "Order History", Payment Options", and "Address Book" down the left column. "Privacy" comes back with "Give us a little while to fix this" (🤷‍♂️) but the big isue is selecting "Subscriptions" leads to an endless refresh with the URL bar showing (as far as I am able to capture them)

https://account.microsoft.com/services?lang=en-US#main-content-landing-react

then

https://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=wsignin1.0&rpsnv=201&checkda=1&ct=1786477465&rver=7.5.2234.0&wp=MBI_SSL&wreply=https:%2F%2Faccount.microsoft.com%2Fauth%2Fcomplete-silent-signin%3Fru%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faccount.microsoft.com%252Fservices%253Flang%253Den-US%2526refd%253Daccount.microsoft.com&lc=1033&id=292666

and

https://account.microsoft.com/auth/complete-client-signin-oauth-silent?state={ about 450 characters of encoded garble }

This obviously prevents me from extending my MS365 subscription for another year. MS are screwing themselves here, but so far my searches for a solution have been fruitless - I have found many suggested fixes reported, none of which make any difference for me. These include (there may be others, my memory has never been great)

  • reset the account password
  • switch on 2FA, and use Authenticator on my phone
  • make sure the date/time is synced properly
  • use private / incognito mode
  • clear cache and cookies
  • logged into Windows with a different account? - no, local
  • try a different browser (I've used Chrome, Edge, and Firefox)
  • try a different computer on a different ISP

NOTHING WORKS. What the hell! I've purchased a renewal subscription key but can't enter it and obviously can't get a refund because it's been opened, otherwise I'd be tempted to bite the bullet and switch to OSS alternatives like LibreOffice and Thunderbird (much as I hate both but I'm sure I can get used to anything, given enough time)

Anyone with helpful suggestions? I'm all out of ideas 🥴

Hello @Christopher Bedford

Given everything you've already tested: different browsers, private mode, cleared cookies/cache, another computer, another ISP, password reset and 2FA, I don't think this is a normal browser or Windows issue.

The repeated redirects between account.microsoft.com/services, login.live.com and account.microsoft.com/auth/complete-client-signin suggest the Microsoft account authentication/session isn't completing correctly for the Services & subscriptions page.

The good news is that since you've already purchased a Microsoft 365 renewal key, you don't actually need to access the Services & subscriptions page first to redeem it.

Go directly to:

Microsoft 365 setup and product-key redemption: https://setup.office.com/?source=microsoft365?

Sign in with the same Microsoft account currently associated with your Microsoft 365 subscription, then enter the 25-character key. Microsoft specifically documents this method for extending an existing Microsoft 365 subscription.

If successful, the additional subscription time should be added to the existing subscription. Microsoft allows subscription time to be extended up to a maximum of five years.

I would not redeem the key against another Microsoft account as a workaround, because the key becomes associated with the account used during redemption.

If microsoft365.com/setup also enters the same authentication loop, then this is strong evidence of an account-side authentication/subscription issue. At that point I'd contact Microsoft Support and specifically report that the failure reproduces across devices, browsers and networks and occurs during the complete-client-signin flow. Microsoft recommends contacting Support for technical problems managing or renewing a Microsoft 365 subscription.

You can also try the alternate redemption endpoint:

Microsoft Redeem: https://account.microsoft.com/billing/redeem?

Microsoft specifically recommends that endpoint when normal Office/Microsoft 365 product-key redemption isn't working.

If both direct redemption URLs produce the same redirect loop, please post the exact error shown there (without personal information). That would help confirm whether the problem is specifically with the account authentication flow rather than the subscription itself.
