To change the account sign-in email, use Manage how you sign in to Microsoft, not the profile name page.
Steps:
- Sign in to Edit account info: Edit account info
- Choose Add email if the correct email address is not already listed as an alias.
- Verify the new email address if prompted.
- In Manage how you sign in to Microsoft, select Make primary next to the correct alias.
- If needed, remove the incorrect alias after the correct one is set as primary.
If the rename created a conflict with a work or school account that uses the same email address, Microsoft may show a Which account do you want to use? prompt. In that case, changing the personal account’s primary alias to a different email address can remove the prompt.
If sign-in or verification is blocked because the password no longer works, use Recover your account first: Recover your account
