There may still be a possibility to recover the OneDrive data, but the university's Microsoft 365 administrator will need to check the status of the account and OneDrive.
The message "The resource you tried to access is unavailable" does not necessarily mean that the OneDrive data has already been deleted. If multiple university accounts are experiencing the same issue, this could be related to an account, licensing, or tenant-wide change.
I recommend contacting the university IT administrator and asking them to check the following:
- Whether your original Microsoft Entra ID account still exists and is only disabled, blocked, or unlicensed.
- Whether your original OneDrive site still exists.
- Whether the OneDrive appears under deleted OneDrive sites in the SharePoint admin center.
- The actual date when your account became deleted or unlicensed.
- Whether the university has configured a custom OneDrive retention period or has retention policies/holds that may preserve the data.
Since your OneDrive contains approximately 30 GB of important files, I would recommend contacting the university administrator as soon as possible and specifically asking them to check the original OneDrive site.
Also, the fact that you received an email less than 93 days ago does not by itself establish that the data has been permanently deleted. The administrator should determine the actual account/OneDrive deletion or unlicensed date and check whether the site is still recoverable.
If this is affecting many university accounts, you would also ask the university IT department whether there has been a recent tenant-wide account, licensing, or Microsoft 365 migration. That could explain why the accounts are currently inaccessible while the underlying OneDrive data may still be present.
