Dear @Phillips Maya,
Based on your description, you need to transfer files from one OneDrive account to another without losing any data. One file has already gone missing during the process, and you want to ensure the remaining files are transferred safely.
To better understand your situation, could you please confirm whether you're trying to transfer files from a OneDrive Personal account to another OneDrive Personal account, or from a OneDrive Personal account to a OneDrive for Education (school/work) account?
In the meantime, the safest approach is to copy the files first, verify the copy, and only then remove the original files.
Here are some suggestions you can try:
Option 1: Share and Copy Using File Explorer and the OneDrive Sync App
Please note that: Do not use the Move to option in the OneDrive web portal. Also, avoid using Copy to in OneDrive on the web when transferring between different Microsoft accounts, as availability and behavior can vary depending on the account type. Instead, use the OneDrive desktop sync app and File Explorer.
- Sign in to the source OneDrive account using the OneDrive sync app
- Select the files or folders and choose Share.
- Sign in to the destination OneDrive account using the OneDrive sync app. This will create a separate OneDrive folder on the device.
- Create a temporary local folder (for example,
C:\OneDriveTransfer) and copy the files from the source OneDrive folder to this temporary location.
- Verify that all files were copied successfully to the temporary folder and can be opened normally.
- Copy the files from the temporary folder into the destination OneDrive folder in File Explorer.
- Wait for OneDrive to finish syncing the files to the destination account. You can check the OneDrive cloud icon in the notification area to confirm synchronization is complete.
- Sign in to the destination OneDrive account on the web and verify that all files and folders are present and accessible.
- Only after confirming the files exist in the destination account should you consider removing them from the source account.
Option 2: Download and Upload
If Copy to is not available:
- Download the files from the source OneDrive account to your local device.
- Verify the files are downloaded successfully.
- Sign in to the destination OneDrive account.
- Upload the files to the destination account.
- Confirm the upload is complete and the files are accessible.
Please note:
- Keep a local backup until the transfer is fully completed.
- Do not use Move to across accounts unless you have verified backups.
- Do not delete files from the source account until you have confirmed they exist and open correctly in the destination account.
Beside that, to recover the File you lost:
Check the following locations:
- OneDrive Recycle Bin in the source account
- OneDrive Recycle Bin in the destination account
- Windows Recycle Bin
- Version History (if the file still exists but was modified)
I hope information above meet your expectations, feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.
