Change your Office product account

Hello. I mistakenly registered the office product verification key I purchased from the company to my account, and I am about to leave the company, so I want to change my account to the company email.

Among other inquiries

To keep the licenses attached to your personal account under company management, request that Microsoft Support transfer or revoke (dislink) the licenses. This is often not handled on the user screen, so only the support team can verify or handle exceptions with the tool. However, depending on the case, it may not be possible or it may end up being a refund and a repurchase notice.

With that answer, do you know where Microsoft support is available and what the procedure is?

    Hi Alice,

Regarding your concern, the inquiry is mostly correct. In this case, you must contact Microsoft Support because once an Office/Microsoft 365 product key has been redeemed, the license is tied to the Microsoft account used during redemption, and the key itself is no longer the main activation method.

I’d like to gently clarify that this is a user-to-user support forum, and as a user here, I’m not part of the Microsoft Support team, so I don’t have the ability to directly cancel subscriptions or intervene on billing matters.

You can reach out to Microsoft Support by:

    For Personal/retail Office license

    • Use the Microsoft Support contact page > log in to your Microsoft account.
    • Enter "agent support" in the search bar and press Enter or click on Get Help.
    • Ignore the search results and click on the "Contact Support" button at the bottom.
    • On the next page, select "Microsoft 365 and Office" and "Technical Support" from the drop-down lists, and then click on "Confirm" > "Chat with a support agent in your web browser" > enter your email address and click on "Confirm".
    • A chat window will open in a new tab. Wait for the operator to respond and describe the situation to him.

Note: The chat is available during business hours and on business days according to US time.

For Business account through a company Microsoft 365 admin

If you haven't left the company yet, you can reach out to your company IT administrator and ask for their help to create a support ticket to the Microsoft Billing team:

    • Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center with a Microsoft administrator account.
    • On right bottom corner, click on "Help & support"
    • Turn off the "Support Assistant" feature.
    • Use the keyword "Support" to quickly bypass automated suggestions > Select Contact Support.
    • In the ticket description, please clearly describe the issue and share your preferred contact times that may help the support team handle the case more efficiently.

For detailed guidance on how to open a support ticket with Microsoft Support, please refer to: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn

If you don't know who your administrator is, kindly refer to this article How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support to contact your organization's administrator to submit a request on your behalf.

Hope this information helps you move forward smoothly. Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to share them in the comment below. I'm very happy to help.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

There is no self-service way to move an Office license from one Microsoft account to another after it has been registered. In this situation, Microsoft Support must handle any possible exception, transfer, cancellation, or refund path.

For a company account, credentials typically remain under the organization’s control and are not something that can be kept after leaving the company. If the goal is for the company to retain use of the license, Microsoft Support is the correct contact point.

    Procedure:

    1. Go to the Microsoft support contact page.
    2. Type Talk to an agent in the help box, then select Get Help.
    3. At the bottom of the page, select Contact Support.
    4. Sign in if prompted. If access to the affected account is a problem, use another Microsoft account to reach support.
    5. For Office license/account issues, select the Office or billing/account category presented in the support flow.
    6. Choose Chat with a support agent in your web browser if that option appears.
    7. Explain that the Office product key was registered to the wrong Microsoft account and that the license needs to be reviewed for transfer, cancellation, refund, or repurchase options.

Useful facts for the support case:

    • Office does not show the full product key inside the app.
    • In Office, the registered Microsoft account can be checked in File > Account, then look for the address shown after Belongs to below the product name.
    • If the product key is damaged but there is valid proof of purchase, Microsoft Support may be able to replace the key or provide other options.
