I have downloaded the Microsoft Authenticator on my IPAD, but when I try to transfer the codes from my Iphone, the Microsoft Authenticator keeps saying "Gettinng things ready for you" for over an hour now.

For Microsoft Authenticator, backup and restore works only when the backup was enabled on the old phone, the same recovery account is used, and the restore is done to the same device type. An iPhone to iPad transfer is not supported by the provided guidance because restore requires the same device type.

For iPhone backup, these items must be enabled on the old device:

    1. iCloud Drive
    2. iCloud Keychain
    3. iCloud Backup
    4. In Apple Account > iCloud > Saved to iCloud, make sure Authenticator is turned on

If the app is stuck on "Getting things ready for you", also check these common app issues:

    1. Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
    2. Make sure Airplane mode is off.
    3. Update to the latest version of Microsoft Authenticator.
    4. In Authenticator Settings, turn off battery optimization if that option appears.
    5. Make sure notifications are enabled.
    6. Verify the device date and time are correct.
    7. If using a VPN, disconnect it and test again.

If this is a work or school account, even after restore only the account name is restored. The account must be opened and signed in again to complete setup, and red text such as "Sign in to add your account." is expected.

If restore still does not appear or complete, verify:

    • backup was enabled on the old iPhone
    • the same recovery account is being used
    • the target device matches the original device type
