Uninstalled OneDrive but cant redownload it

Hi, I uninstalled One Drive due to a bad image warning and now when I go to redownload it from Microsoft I get a message saying browse Microsoft Store or Switch out of S mode. Not sure what to do next, so any help would be appreciated. My laptop is Windows 11. Thanks.

Download onedrive file. Disconnect internet. Open task manager. Type in Microsoft OneDrive Setup.exe. Click run as administrator. Pop up window will open. Choose 'Run'. All while in S mode.

Hello. The AI response is correct about S mode, but before switching out of S mode I'd like to check the original problem that caused you to uninstall OneDrive.

Do you remember what the “Bad Image” message said? In particular, was there a file name ending in .dll or an error code such as 0xc000012f or 0xc0000020?

Also, please press Windows key + R, type winver, and tell me the Windows 11 version and build number shown.

Finally, go to Settings > System > Activation and check whether Windows specifically says it is running in S mode.

Hello, I have the same problem. I uninstalled OneDrive after repeatedly receiving the error message 0xc0e90002. Now I cannot reinstall because the download says switch out of S mode which my PC uses as it was bought from PC World and came in S Mode. Should I switch out of S mode please. I recall PC World telling me it was obligatory ? My laptop is Windows 11 Home in S mode version 25H2 build number 26200.9168.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks for the screenshots. I'd like to check whether we can get OneDrive working again without making any changes to S mode first. Could you open Microsoft Store, go to Library, and select Get updates? Let me know if Microsoft OneDrive appears there or if you see an option to install or update it.

Also, go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps and check whether Microsoft OneDrive is still listed there, even though you uninstalled it.

Hi. There doesn't appear to be anywhere that says Get Updates but I've gone through list and OneDrive isn't listed. It's not in installed apps list either.

Noted. One more thing I'd like you to try before making any changes to S mode. Open Microsoft Store and search for “OneDrive.” Do you get a OneDrive app from Microsoft Corporation in the search results, and if so, does it give you an Install or Get button?

Please don't switch out of S mode yet. I just want to see exactly what the Store offers on your PC first.

Thanks for checking. In that case, the way forward is to take Windows out of S mode so you can install the full version of OneDrive again.

Go to Settings > System > Activation and open the S mode section. It should take you to the Microsoft Store, where you'll see the option to switch out of S mode.

It doesn't cost anything, but it is a one-way change. Nothing will happen to your files and you'll still have Windows 11 Home. It simply removes the restriction that only allows apps from the Microsoft Store, so you'll also be able to install normal Windows programs downloaded from Microsoft websites.

Once you've switched out of S mode, download OneDrive directly from Microsoft and install it again:

The message indicates the PC is running Windows 11 in S mode. In S mode, only apps from the Microsoft Store can be installed. If the OneDrive installer being used is the desktop sync app from the website, Windows will block it and show browse Microsoft Store or Switch out of S mode.

What to do next:

Check whether the PC is in S mode.
In Windows 11, go to the S mode page from Microsoft Store using: Switch out of S Mode
If the goal is to install apps from outside Microsoft Store, switch out of S mode.
- Open the Switch out of S mode page in Microsoft Store.
- Select Get.
- After confirmation, apps from outside Microsoft Store can be installed.
Important warning: switching out of S mode is permanent.
There is no charge, but S mode cannot be turned back on afterward.
If staying in S mode, use Microsoft Store apps only.
The context notes that the OneDrive by Microsoft Corporation app from Microsoft Store lets files be viewed, but does not back up and sync files. The desktop Microsoft OneDrive app is the backup and sync app.
If OneDrive was previously removed and the PC is no longer in S mode, reinstall it by:
- Select Start and type Programs.
- Open Add or remove programs.
- Confirm Microsoft OneDrive is not still listed.
- Download the Microsoft OneDrive app from the website: download the Microsoft OneDrive app from the website.
- Open the downloaded file and complete setup.

If the device belongs to an organization, the administrator may have blocked switching out of S mode.
