In Microsoft Teams, in Settings>Devices>Audio settings, no speaker or microphone is being detected.

I have an external speaker and microphone plugged in and they work in other applications - Google meet, but are not being recognised by teams

Since the speaker and microphone work in Google Meet, the hardware is likely fine and Teams or Windows permissions/device selection are the issue.

    Try this in order:

    1. In Teams, go to Settings and more > Settings > Devices.
      • Under Audio settings, check whether the correct Speaker and Microphone appear in the dropdowns.
      • If they do appear, select them and run Make a test call.
      • If they do not appear, unplug and reconnect the devices, then reopen Teams.
    2. In Windows, verify microphone access for Teams:
      • Open Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
      • Turn on Microphone access.
      • Turn on Let apps access your microphone.
      • Turn on Microsoft Teams (work or school).
      • Turn on Let desktop apps access your microphone.
      • If these were already on, toggle them off and back on, then restart the device.
    3. Check Windows sound device detection:
      • Open Settings > System > Sound.
      • Under Input, confirm the external microphone is listed in Choose a device for speaking or recording.
      • Under output, confirm the external speaker is selected and not muted.
      • If the mic or speaker is missing, use Add device if available.
    4. Re-enable the microphone in classic sound settings:
      • Go to Settings > System > Sound > Advanced > More sound settings.
      • In the Recording tab, right-click the microphone and select Enable.
    5. If Teams desktop still does not detect the devices, use Teams on the web and allow browser/device permissions:
      • In Teams on the web, allow the app to access device features through More options > App permissions.
      • In the browser, allow microphone access.
      • For Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Permissions > Microphone, then make sure the correct device is selected and Sites can ask to use your microphone is enabled.
      • For Edge: Settings and more > Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Microphone, then turn on Ask before accessing (recommended).
    6. If Windows is not detecting the microphone at all, reinstall the audio driver. This can affect all apps and device detection:
      • Open Device Manager.
      • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      • Right-click the audio device and select Uninstall device.
      • If prompted, select the option to remove/delete the driver software.
      • Restart the PC so Windows reinstalls the driver automatically.
      • Then return to Device Manager and use Update driver if needed.
    7. If using Bluetooth devices, make sure they are charged and not connected to another device before reconnecting.

If the issue is urgent, the fastest workaround is to join with Teams on the web, since the devices already work in Google Meet through the browser.
