Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
For EarthLink-hosted mail in Outlook for Mac, use a standard IMAP or POP account with SMTP, not Microsoft 365 mailbox settings.
- In Outlook for Mac, open Tools > Accounts.
- Add or select the EarthLink account.
- Enter and verify these basic settings:
- Email address: the full EarthLink email address
- User name: usually the full email address or the part before
@, depending on the provider - Password: the mailbox password for that EarthLink account
- Incoming server: the IMAP or POP server from EarthLink
- Outgoing server: the SMTP server from EarthLink
- For security, enable Use SSL to connect where available.
- If sending fails, turn on SMTP authentication:
- In Tools > Accounts, select the account
- Under Outgoing server, click More Options
- Select the authentication type and enter the credentials as required
- If sending still fails, check whether the current network or ISP is blocking the SMTP server:
- In Tools > Accounts, select the account
- In Outgoing server, enter an alternative SMTP server if EarthLink or the network administrator provides one
- Recheck the account credentials and server settings. If the account still does not work, the provider may require special settings such as SSL or a non-default port.
If the goal is only to access the mailbox on the Mac, Mac Mail can also be configured manually with IMAP or POP. For Microsoft 365 mailboxes in Mac Mail, the documented server names are:
- Incoming:
outlook.office365.com - Outgoing:
smtp.office365.com
Those Microsoft 365 server names are not for EarthLink-hosted mailboxes.
