I am getting an error while logging into my Office 365 account on my MacBook.

Based on my research, the "Something went wrong. [7anyj]" error on macOS is commonly associated with a Microsoft 365 sign-in or authentication issue. This can occur when stored credentials become corrupted, authentication tokens are no longer valid, or the Office application is unable to complete the sign-in process successfully.

As a first step, please verify that you can successfully sign in to https://www.office.com using the same Microsoft 365 account. If you cannot access the web portal, the issue may be related to the account itself, licensing, or authentication policies rather than the Office application on your Mac.

If you can sign in through the web browser, please open Keychain Access on your Mac and remove any saved Microsoft-related credentials, including entries containing Microsoft Office, Microsoft Identity, ADAL, MSAL, or your Microsoft 365 email address. These credentials are used by Office applications for authentication, and corrupted entries can prevent successful sign-in. After removing them, restart your Mac and try signing in again.

Additionally, please ensure that your Microsoft 365 application is updated to the latest version. Updates frequently contain fixes for authentication and sign-in related issues. You can check for updates by opening any Office application and selecting Help > Check for Updates.

Could you please confirm whether you are able to sign in successfully to https://www.office.comusing the same Microsoft 365 account? If web sign-in is successful, this would help determine whether the issue is specific to the Microsoft 365 applications on your Mac or related to the account itself.

Additionally, if you have access to another Mac device, could you please try signing in with the same account on that device and let me know whether you encounter the same error? This will help me determine whether the issue is isolated to your current Mac or follows the account across devices.

Hi,

The web sign-in is successful, and I am also able to sign in successfully on another MacBook.

I would like to inform you that I recently shifted the domain to another Microsoft 365 account. Could this be the reason for the issue?

Since you're able to sign in successfully via the web browser and on another MacBook using the same account, the issue appears to be specific to the affected Mac.

Given that the domain was recently migrated to another Microsoft 365 tenant, there may still be cached Microsoft 365 identity or tenant information stored locally on the device. Removing credentials from Keychain Access clears the most common authentication entries, but it may not remove all Microsoft 365 sign-in data.

Please try the following additional steps:

Close all Microsoft applications.

Open Keychain Access and remove all entries related to Microsoft Office, Microsoft Identity, ADAL, MSAL, and the affected email address.

Open System Settings > Internet Accounts and remove any old Microsoft work or school accounts that are no longer in use.

In Finder, select Go > Go to Folder and remove the following folders if they exist:

~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office

~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Office365ServiceV2

~/Library/Caches/com.microsoft.Office365ServiceV2

Restart the Mac and attempt to sign in again.

These steps will force Microsoft 365 to recreate its local authentication and identity data, which may help if the device is still referencing information from the previous Microsoft 365 tenant.

Sorry for my delayed response.

Looks like this issue appears to be related to how Microsoft 365 credentials or authentication data are stored locally on your affected Mac rather than an issue with the application itself. Since the same account works successfully on another MacBook, the device may still be retaining old cached information or tenant-related data.

If removing the Microsoft-related entries from Keychain Access did not resolve the issue, please try completely uninstalling Microsoft 365 from the affected Mac, then reinstalling the latest version. After the reinstallation is complete, install all available updates before attempting to sign in again.

If the issue still persists, the final option would be to perform a factory reset of the Mac. Before doing so, however, I recommend contacting Apple Support to check whether they can assist with completely clearing the application-related cache or residual system data without resetting the device.
Note: If a factory reset is necessary, please make sure that all important files and data have been backed up and can be restored. This will help prevent any accidental data loss during the reset process.
