A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
Because the account is only a few days old and has very little activity, the recovery form may fail if there is not enough account history to verify ownership.
Use this path:
- Try the Sign-in Helper first. It is the recommended first step before submitting the recovery form again.
- If the password is unknown and there is no access to the verification options, submit the account recovery form again.
- Complete the recovery form from a device previously used to sign in to that account and from a location commonly used for that device, such as home. This improves the chance of successful verification.
- Provide a working email address in the recovery form so Microsoft can respond about the request.
- Microsoft reviews the answers and typically responds within 24 hours.
Important limits:
- If two-step verification was turned on and there is no access to any alternate verification method, support agents cannot reset the password or change account details.
- If the account shows verification methods that are not accessible, select I don't have any of these during sign-in and follow the prompts to replace security info.
- If all security info is replaced, there is a 30-day wait before sign-in is allowed.
- If the username or account is not recognized, use the Sign-in Helper.
If the recovery form says there is not enough information, the supported next step is to try again with more accurate details and use the same familiar device/location.
