Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Try this in order:
- Check which subscription is actually active.
- Go to your Microsoft account services page and sign in with the personal Microsoft account used for Microsoft 365.
- Verify whether the subscription shows as active and check the expiration status.
- If a second subscription was bought from a retail box or card, it may not have started yet until the product key was redeemed.
- Make sure Word is signed in with the same account that owns the active subscription.
- Open Word.
- Go to File > Account.
- Confirm the signed-in account matches the account that has the subscription.
- Close and reopen Word after signing in.
- If Word still shows the old or expired license, reinstall Microsoft 365 to refresh licensing.
- Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
- Find Microsoft 365 or Office.
- Right-click it and select Uninstall.
- Restart the PC.
- Reinstall Microsoft 365 from the Microsoft account services page using the account with the active subscription.
- Open Word and sign in with that same account.
- If the issue is that two subscriptions now exist or the renewal status looks wrong, contact Microsoft Support directly.
- For Microsoft 365 Family or Personal, support can be reached through Contact us or Contact Support.
- Chat or callback support is available for Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, Family, and Premium.
- If the subscription expiration date or renewal status does not look right, contact support.
- If Word is still unavailable while waiting for support, Office Online can be used for free in a web browser.
For speaking with a person, use Microsoft Support contact flow and choose Microsoft 365 and Office, then subscription/account help. Callback and chat are supported for home Microsoft 365 subscriptions.
