How do I close my account

To permanently close an Outlook.com or Skype account, the Microsoft account itself must be closed. Closing the Microsoft account also removes access to other Microsoft consumer services that use that account, such as Outlook.com, Skype, OneDrive, Office Online, and Windows sign-in.

Before closing the account:

1. Sign in to the account if possible.
2. Save any important files, contacts, or other data.
3. Use any remaining Skype Credit.
4. Cancel active subscriptions first so charges do not continue during the closure waiting period.

To close the account:

1. Go to the Microsoft account closure page.
2. Sign in and verify the account if prompted.
3. Confirm the correct account is shown, then select Next.
4. Read the checklist and select the checkboxes to acknowledge each item.
5. Choose a reopen window of 30 or 60 days.
6. Select a reason for closing the account.
7. Select Mark account for closure.

Important:

• The account is not deleted immediately. It is closed after the selected reopen window ends.
• During that period, signing back in cancels the closure.
• After the account is closed and the reopen window has passed, Microsoft deletes the data and content associated with that account.
• For Outlook.com, email and contacts are deleted and can’t be recovered.
