BitLocker Key Blocked by 30-Day Security Hold

My PC entered BitLocker Recovery after running Microsoft Defender Offline Scan. I know the username and password for the Microsoft account containing my recovery key and can successfully sign in, but I no longer have access to the old email used for security verification. I updated the security email today, which triggered a 30-day hold until September 6.

I need access to my existing BitLocker recovery key without resetting or erasing the PC because it contains important work files. Is there any way to verify my identity or retrieve my existing recovery key during the 30-day security hold?

No. During this situation, there is no supported way to bypass the BitLocker requirement or have Microsoft Support retrieve, provide, or recreate the recovery key.

The supported options are only to find the existing key from one of the places where it may already be stored:

    1. Note the first 8 digits of the recovery key ID shown on the BitLocker screen.
    2. From another device, check the Microsoft account recovery key page and match that key ID to the stored 48-digit recovery key.
    3. If the device was ever signed into an organization with a work or school account, check the work or school account recovery key page, then go to Devices > expand the device > View BitLocker Keys.
    4. Check whether the key was printed when BitLocker was enabled.
    5. Check for a USB flash drive where the key may have been saved as a text file.
    6. If the device is managed by an organization, contact that organization's IT support. Helpdesk procedures can retrieve the recovery password from Microsoft Entra ID or AD DS using the device name or recovery key ID.

If the recovery key cannot be found, the remaining option is to reset the device using Windows recovery options. Resetting removes files.
