For the Google account in classic Outlook, this is a known issue that affected some Gmail and Yahoo accounts after February 26, 2026 and could also happen after a password change. Symptoms include Outlook no longer prompting for sign-in and errors such as 0x800CCC0E, 0x800CCC0F, or 0x80070057.
The service-side issue was fixed on 3/20/26, but if Outlook still is not prompting for Google sign-in, the supported workaround is to force Outlook to refresh the OAuth credentials:
- Close Outlook.
- Open Credential Manager from the Windows Start menu. On Windows 10, this may require opening Control Panel first.
- Select Windows Credentials.
- Under Generic credentials, find entries starting with MicrosoftOffice16_Data:OAUTH2.
- Remove the entries for the affected Gmail account. The relevant entries include names ending with tp_google_imap_Oauth2. There can be two or four entries for each Gmail account.
- Restart Outlook and sign in to the Gmail account.
- If syncing does not start immediately, restart Outlook again.
If that does not fix it, there is a second workaround that removes the Outlook identity key for that account so Outlook prompts for sign-in again. This does not remove the account, but it requires editing the registry, which is risky if the wrong key is deleted.
- Close Outlook.
- Open Run, type
regedit, and select OK. - Go to:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity\Identities - Under Identities, select each subkey until the affected Gmail address is found.
- Delete only the identity key that matches that Gmail address.
- Restart Outlook and sign in again.
For non-Microsoft email apps and services, Microsoft states that modern authentication is required. If an app does not support modern authentication or OAuth for EAS, POP, IMAP, and SMTP, the recommended path is to use Outlook or contact that app’s support.
