To cancel a personal Microsoft 365 subscription purchased from Microsoft:
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 and sign in with the same Microsoft account used to buy the subscription.
- Select Cancel subscription. It might appear as Upgrade or Cancel.
- Review the page, then confirm that the subscription should be canceled.
If Cancel subscription is not shown and Turn on recurring billing appears instead, the subscription is already set to expire on the date shown and no further charges will occur.
If the subscription was purchased from a third-party retailer or app store, cancellation must be done through that seller.
About files and storage after cancellation:
- Word documents, pictures, and other files are not automatically converted when the subscription is canceled.
- If a Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, Family, or Premium subscription is canceled, cloud storage returns to 5 GB for OneDrive and 15 GB for Outlook.com storage.
- If storage usage is above the free allowance after cancellation:
- New files can’t be uploaded, edited, or synced to OneDrive.
- Outlook.com email may stop sending or receiving.
- After 6 months, OneDrive and its files may be deleted.
For a safer cancellation, save important OneDrive files and pictures to another location before canceling.
A PIN is not required in the documented cancellation steps.
