Hi MS Technical support,

Is there a way to log into hotmail/outlook email by using an ID instead of an Email address?

As hacking/scam activities are on the rise, Email addresses have become very vulnerable to those activities.

With log-in IDs, users can use normal passwords to log in as IDs are not used by public.

Looking forward to hearing from you or seeing these new feature to eliminate hackers/scammers.

Hello. There isn't currently a separate non-email "login ID" that you can create for a personal Hotmail/Outlook.com account.

But what you can do is, you can create a new Outlook.com alias and keep that address private, then configure the account so that only this alias is allowed to sign in. Your existing Hotmail/Outlook.com address can remain your normal public email address while being blocked from signing in.

Important Note: Do not remove your existing Hotmail/Outlook.com address. You only need to disable it for sign-in. Microsoft warns that removing a Microsoft-domain alias such as @hotmail.com, @live.com or @outlook.com permanently deletes that alias.

I would also recommend setting up a passkey or another passwordless sign-in method.

But I would suggest that you use the detailed instructions for how to setup a Login Only Alias and disable Sign-In for your current email address in the Answer by "Hornblower409 on Feb 27, 2026" at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5789093/i-get-a-few-2fa-notifications-from-canada-daily-us

    This provides all the steps required to ensure you setup your new alias correctly. And includes the very important step to change your Default Send From address. So that your new "secret" Login Only Alias doesn't leak into the wild and become an attack target.
